Poker Profiles: Chip Reese

David "Chip" Reese is from Daytona, Ohio. He was born on March 28, 1951 and learned early on that he's got a knack for card games. A smart kid indeed, Reese played his first Poker at age six at the expense of his precious baseball cards and some of his lunch money. It was not clear if he got both back but one thing is for sure, the guy has a gift of winning. That is proven by being part of the Poker Hall of Fame at age 40, a feat that no one except Reese was able to furnish.

Reese's ride to fame was never easy. It was a tough and rough road which he was able to go through nicely. His first trip to a Las Vegas casino happened on his way to Stanford University where he intended to earn a degree in Law. Gambling on his last $400, Reese was lucky to have made his meager pocket money into a fortune. His $400 swelled to $60,000 and that made all the difference on Reese's decision regarding the profession he would pursue. The reason is simple: he cannot possibly make as much money that he can from Poker by being a lawyer. As Reese rose to become the youngest player to join the Hall of Fame, he seems to be very right.

That one lucky strike at Vegas, Reese had a string of winnings more, making him one of the most popular cash game players in Poker history. He had the pleasure of meeting the 'big guys' at the high stakes game tables he had been and actually beat some of them. Famous opponents that have been most memorable not only to Reese but to his fans as well include Doyle Brunson, Billy Baldwin, and Lyle Berman. With that point alone, Reese is already a big winner. That does not mean, however, that Reese never lost. He did faced a couple of setbacks and unlucky nights. But losing for Reese is as important as winning because, as he said, it creates Poker champions.

Not only is Reese a very level-headed person. His pleasantries even when the tides are high is very admirable. Whether he is winning or losing, he always keeps his cool. No one can possibly throw bad thoughts towards Reese because he is always friendly and humble, on the Poker table and out.

But no, Reese is not only a renowned mover in Poker. He has also included his Backgammon and Gin Rummy skills in his impressive resume. It obviously saddened the industry when Reese decided that it's time to nurture his family. He took the strides in the sidelines, involving himself in sports betting rather than playing Poker. In a way, it made up some of his Poker earnings without having to be out most of the time.
